How to use a coupon code without wasting time
by couponlab

You find a code, the cart says no, and then you try three more that also say no. Most of the time the code was fine. It was the wrong page, the cart was a dollar short, or the code belonged to a different store.
Where the code goes
It is almost never on the product page. You add the thing, open the cart, and look for a small line that says Promo, Gift card, or Discount. On Walmart and Target that line is on the cart, before you pay. On Amazon it shows up later, on the payment page, and plenty of items will not take a code at all.
Paste it. Typing it by hand is how a space gets stuck on the end, and a space is enough to fail. If the card says app only, the website cart will ignore it. The other way around happens too.
Why it says it does not work
The gray line under the error is the useful part. It is usually one of these.
- Wrong store. A Home Depot code does not work on a marketplace seller inside the site. A Nike code from Nike.com will not clear at a Nike outlet or a shop that only sells Nike.
- The cart is short. Twenty percent off $75 does nothing at $74. Shipping usually does not count toward that number.
- One item is blocking it. Gift cards, clearance, and some brands inside a bigger store get left out. Sephora and Macy’s do this a lot. Take that one thing out and try the code again before you give up on it.
- It wanted a new customer. If that email has ordered before, a welcome code just refuses. A second email does not always help when the card or the address is the same.
- It is old. A code that worked last week is not a code that works today. The date on the store page is the one that matters.
Does it stack with a membership?
The prices can. The codes usually cannot. A member price, a sale, and free shipping over a certain amount can all be true at once. Two promo codes almost never can. There is one box. The second code either replaces the first or gets ignored.
A loyalty account is not a second code. Bath & Body Works rewards, a Target Circle offer, or a discount from the store card can sit on a sale. You still only get one coupon field. If the card says it does not combine with other offers, that is the rule, not a suggestion.
Free shipping is the one people mix up. Dollars off from a code, and free shipping because the cart crossed a line, can both happen. That is one code plus a store rule. It is not two codes.
What to do, in order
- Copy a live card from the store page. Skip the expired ones at the bottom.
- Put the items in the cart, then look for the promo box there or on the payment step.
- Paste once. If it fails, check the store, the minimum, and the item that might be excluded.
- Stay signed in. Do not hunt for a second code to sit next to the membership.
The working codes are on the store pages, not in this post. The shops linked above are a start, or open all stores.
