Announced today, the Amazon Prime Wardrobe will allow customers to try on their clothes before buying them via a StitchFix-esque box model. In conjunction with the Echo Look, this could place Amazon squarely ahead of the competition when it comes to apparel shopping. While Walmart buys up indie darlings like ModCloth and Bonobos to flesh out its fashion portfolio, Amazon is focusing on technology and services to beat the competition.
The Prime Wardrobe service is available to Prime members, and all its fees are included with membership. Customers will be able to select three or more items of their choosing, as opposed to a stylist’s, which removes the guesswork and mystery of a fashion subscription box, putting more power in the customer’s hands. Those who order the box will have seven days to try on the clothes and decide to keep or return them. If the customer chooses to keep three or four items, they will receive a 10% discount on them, and if they choose to keep five or more, they’ll receive a 20% discount.
To return items, customers can drop off the package with its pre-paid label at a UPS location or schedule a pickup, both of which are free. The program has yet to launch, but you can sign up to be notified when it launches. Eligible items range from women’s to men’s, girls’ to boys’, popular brands like Calvin Klein and Levi’s, as well as baby clothing, shoes and accessories. The box can be ordered at any time and does not require a subscription.
