Nintendo fans rejoice: the SNES Classic is coming to a retailer near you this fall. It will include 21 pre-installed classic games, an HDMI cable, two wired controllers, a USB charging cable with AC adapter, and it will retail for $79.99. In a surprise reveal, owners of the SNES Classic will be able to get the previously unreleased “Star Fox 2,” the sequel to the original “Star Fox,” which can be unlocked by completing the first level in “Star Fox.”

SNES_Mini Originally rumored in a report from Eurogamer, sources close to Nintendo confirmed back in March that the company was planning to manufacture and release the SNES Classic console, similar to the NES Classic console they discontinued at the end of April. The launch is planned for September 29 (that’s my birthday!), and we speculate that it will also be a limited release, like its predecessor, which Nintendo stated was “never intended to be a permanent product.”

Fans of the NES Classic (mini) console were a bit miffed earlier this year when it was revealed production would cease on the product, complaining of inflated prices on eBay by scalpers. Personally, I’m much more excited for a SNES release, since that’s a bit closer to my own childhood gaming experiences. Games like “A Link to the Past,” “Chrono Trigger” and “Super Mario Kart,” which all have been critically lauded, make up part of the library of SNES games many are excited to see re-released.
